Checking out Google Presentations
I've been taking advantage of some downtime to go and revisit some Web Office and other applications including Google Presentations.
PowerPoint slide decks are the bane of many meetings and organizations. However, within limits, a slide deck can serve its purpose. Google Presentations is a presentations package with a much lighter footprint than the ubiquitous Microsoft Office PowerPoint. Thus introducing Google Presentations into an organizations means a mandated path to simpler presentations.
One benefit that Google Presentations has over Microsoft PowerPoint is the fact that any presentation you create can live its entire life online during the development and viewing of the presentation. This is especially helpful if you are working with a geographically disparate project team.
However, Google Presentations still nags at me like other Web Office applications that have functionality that can nip at Microsoft Office's heels. I am just not hearing about any major enterprises dropping Microsoft Office for Google Apps, Zoho Business, or ThinkFree.
While there is the news about the Cap Gemini/Google partnership for Google Apps, outside of Cap Gemini there has yet to be any corporate takers chucking Microsoft Office for Google Apps.
