Considering my initial experience with MobileMe, I couldn't justify renewing my account for another year. Apple really let me down with the launch of MobileMe but I plan to follow MobileMe developments and I am optimistic given time that Apple will get MobileMe back on track to reach its full potential.
As a customer, I can say Apple made the right moves with me. They gave me a great deal when the service was called .Mac and offered me free months of extra service after the botched launch and rebranding of the service. However, during this time it seemed that Apple paid zero attention to making MobileMe (a fee based service) competitive with what was going on in the Web Office, online collaboration, and
Right now, Apple is risking irrelevancy with MobileMe considering advancements in the Web 2.0 market.
Life after MobileMe hasn't been so bad because the botched launch meant that I really didn't put too much faith into the service.

- Bye bye Web Storage. I did get some use out of the Web storage feature.
- Bye bye Web Calendar. Google Calendar, a free offering, offers so much more than the MobileMe calendar offering. Enough said.
- Bye bye Photo and File Sharing. Facebook, PicasaWeb, Flickr, Acrobat.com, and Google Sites come into play when I want to share photos or files depending if it is personal or professional.
- Bye bye Contacts. Gmail does just a fine job preserving my contacts online.

My
plan is to revisit MobileMe one year from now and see if Apple has
learned their lessons from the botched MobileMe launch and taken the
time to study the market including offerings from Google, Zoho, and
Adobe.
For online storage without filesize limits you could do a lot worse than Humyo.com (total 10GB free, of which up to 5GB can be media type files with no filesize limits). That's why my 2.3GB movie is up there at http://www.humyo.com/F/9472151-611139177
